Simplex No. 8005

January 30, 2012

We made an unplanned stop at Ljubljana flea market today. The cold winter winds made sellers and visitors look like robbers. Faces hidden behind scarves, collars rolled all the way up, caps and hats pulled all the way down, hands buried deep in our pockets. Only our eyes were suspiciously exchanging glances. Sellers murmured they would make more money today by selling malt wine, buyers expecting to squeeze a better bargain due tot he cold, but willing to pay a bit more due tot he cold.

And then the unexpected. A true treasure trove.

A box of type, made for hand printing. Call them stamps if you will. The set is almost complete, with only a few caps missing, but it is great as it is. Hope I will be able to track the type and complete the alphabet, though the name (“Simplex”) is not making it easy, and the box yields no additional information. It made my day.
