Keeping up the appearances

June 5, 2011

Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be.

I came across this quote by Duane Michals several times now and I guess it is about time I used it.

This is one of the sights, one of the little epiphanies of today’s steep stroll down Ljubljana’s castle hill.
Decay is genuine, flowers are fake. It appears perfect, but nothing is what it appears to be.

By the way, any ideas on why rules for photography contests generally forbid entries/images of artificial flowers?

Blame it on the Dutch florists lobby. :)
