Stealing time

April 12, 2011

I have started stealing time. From myself. Occasionally, in the morning as I arrive to the faculty, I would sneak out (at least it feels this way) through the side door and head for a local cafe. To read. I don’t read fiction, so it technically still counts as work, but it seems lately that the only way I can get to do some reading is to steal office time from myself. Yesterday, it was the flaneury in 19th century Paris, today, Georg  Simmel’s The Metropolis and mental life, not your typical morning read. But it feels good. And the coffee is perfect.
