More weekend pics

October 4, 2010

I really like the atmosphere of resorts off-season. It is not so much that there are no crowds or touts and that most of the tourism-related overpriced plastic crap that has traveled all the way from China has mysteriously disappeared.

For me, the attraction is in a certain air of melancholy, distant expectations and fading memories.
Though this weekend, there was really not much of that. It was simply about lazing in the sun, knowing that this might very well be the last weekend that still feels like summer. That you can still bathe in the sea. Have a picnic on the grass. And sit late into the afternoon without worrying how many layers of clothes to wear.

It was about the communal feeling of stealing two more extra days of summer from the inevitable, though a bit hesitant autumn. And making the most out of it.

Even the Croats acted friendly.

    That top shot is fabulous.

It’s the sort of thing that should’ve been shot on an 8×10 camera and printed up really large, like several metres across.

Have you ever seen to book, “New Color/New Work: 18 Photographic Essays” by Sally Eauclaire? If not, try and get a hold of it and look at it. I think you’d really enjoy it.

I had to laugh when I read, “Even the Croats acted friendly”. Are you sure you were in Croatia?

Thanks – and to tell you the truth, I have been intensivelly considering moving to a larger format recently. Currently, I’m still hoping for some unexpected financial injection or an incredible ebay find though. Or a wish you a marry PhD gift. :)

I don’t know the book but I will definitely search for it.
