City of (winter) lights

Ljubljana is not a particularly charming place between the time of the year when autumn starts flirting with winter and before spring buds sparkle the few remaining apple trees along Ljubljanica river. Except in December, when the lights kick in and people crowd to the stalls of New Year’s fair for a glass of cooked wine. Or two.

Or five, so that you don’t know if their noses are red from the cold or the wine.

Tamara was charmed. We weren’t disappointed either.

I love how some of the lights have been suspended in mid air to look like galaxies.

My wife and I have recently installed some solar powered lights (they come on automatically at night, flash all night and then turn themselves off in the morning) in the trees in our back yard. We don’t really decorate for the Christmas season but we both love to see lights in trees and we will leave them there all year.

When we get a house or a holliday cottage of a sort, I’ll also play with lights. Not the New Year type, I’m thinking more like delicate lighting for summer evenings.
