Holgos walk, part two

October 24, 2008

Shooting with Holgos is a bit cumbersome venture, and carrying a large roll of paper under your arm while a shopping bag dangles from another does not make it much easier either.
First of all, there is the question of non functioning light metering, which you have to “calibrate” first through trial and error. Once you are done with that, there is the focusing challenge, not to mention the persistent inclination of my Holgamods lens to wind off during focusing. That is the Holga lens is mounted to a body cap which tends to unscrew itself, while the lens itself can also come of if you overfocus.
But it is fun. And I like the dreamy unsharpness it has. Plus you are not rewarded for fiddling with images in Photoshop. So why does he shoot digital if he likes all these things? The answer is fairly easy one – money money money. It costs over 3€ to have a mid format film developed in Slovenia, and that’s just development. Plus I had some hard time scanning the negatives, so digital turned out just great.
Mind you, I think this bus stop hut got some local design award, but have no idea who was in the jury. Midgets? Pre schoolers? Surely it must have won in the usability section :)

Well, this one is pretty obvious, just had to make up a caption to get this nice little frame
