From Austria in blues

September 28, 2008

We skipped Saturday coffee this time and headed for a day trip to the Austrian side of the Alps instead. Like a dull, grey carpet, clouds were stubbornly sitting on the mountain tops, trying to conceal the cold fact that peaks were covered in snow. I must say they were doing their job pretty well. On our way back, we stopped outside Klagenfurt/Celovec in a little place on Worther see. Streets were deserted, shops closed, locals all hiding indoors from the cold or dozing off after lunch and occasional dog walkers making their shortest round possible. Your typical tiny tourist resort off season. I just love this atmosphere, not sad but somewhat nostalgic. While everything from grass lawns to flowers and park benches is still meticulously arranged, boxes in store displays with inflatable boats and diving masks have started to fade. Everything is there, still ready, like the decaying mini golf field (top photo), only there is no one around to use it. You have the place all to yourself.
The only thing missing was a nice warm place to sit by a window, overlooking the serene atmosphere of desertedness over a nice cup of coffee and a piece of cinnamon flavoured Apfelstrudel with a thin layer of icing sugar over the crust. But who am I kidding, Tamara would not sit still for 2 minutes, so we would probably just be chasing her all cross the place, which usually means all the way to the kitchen and back :)
Upon returning home, I discovered that almost all of the photos I made contained something blue, so here you go:
