img_8894-4krat2.jpgRaw numbers aren’t all - sometimes you just have to do the math yourself. When I’m waiting to cross the street on a hot summer day, I sometimes try to hide my head from the blazing sun by standing in the shadow of traffic lights. This of course requires careful calculation of several parameters, just like the equation in the pic :)

Independence day

Independence day is one of Slovene holidays that keeps loosing its attraction with each passing year. While our psychotic prime minister pondered about how “our dreams came life on that historic day”, the flags that must be mandatory displayed, dangled
flabbily from their short poles in the summer heat. Even the air appeared to be bored and the streets of our neighborhood were deserted in their tranquility and Tamara slept  for an hour, only to wake up as we approached first park bench in the shadow :)

I really like “prolonged weekends”

Here is one of the views from this weekend’s wonderful picnic at my mentor’s place in Goriška Brda. It turned out to be pool volley ball tournament, a kind of slow food feast (slowly eating a lot of fod) and plain and simple lazing on a sunny afternoon (after three deserts, who wouldn’t), with gentle wind blowing off the excessive heat.

And two pics featuring the dominant colours of the day, green and blue.

This cutie arrived yesterday by mail. It’s my first ebay purchase, a 1950’s German slide projector. Cute as it is, it will now sit in the basement for a while until I find the time to convert it into a lamp for my working area. Or until we buy a new apartment and arrange proper workspace for the both of us.

My day for my friends

This post is dedicated to the faithful audience of my former work colleagues.

OK guys, guess how I started my morning working day today? I was watching over exam from Sociology of sexuality where exam questions ranged from what reasons for early sexual practice do studies indicate to when did oral sex become so widespread.

And no Shamo, I did not get to grade the exam :)

Plus Radio Student really made my day by playing Vlade Divac Superstar by Deca loših muzičara (I like the name of the band, it translates Children of the bad musicians) during my drive home.

Spent most of my day translating R.E. Park’s article on social control and I’m still not done with it. And if you don’t see me jumping from joy, that’s because I’m not. Grrrr. Have two more such articles to translate and it feels like I’m never going to finish this statute labour. The pic is from our late afternoon walk.

Mannequin love (on a rainy day)

We had a long and delightful weekend which was also full of big steps and changes. Like Tamara’s first teaspoons of apple juice (check her non enthusiastic expression), her first drive in the “sport” top of her stroller and her first real damage - tearing Dragana’s bead bracelet (seconds before the snap).
Speaking of beads, I bargained out these three pieces of filigree for 1,5€ on what’s left of Kamnik flea market. Other highlights include snaps from Friday’s rainy afternoon in Ljubljana that offered some bizarre sights for the black eye. This, along with the incredible garden displays on our strolling routs brought about the idea to create a new blog, dedicated to bizarre bits of our everyday experiences. Coming soon…

Some rain-inspired pics from the curious building complex called The Blue Laguna:
- first raindrops
- shoe shopping in the rain (check out the display)
- footprints (looks crappy in colour)
- the way to the film theater where we had lectures in our first year at faculty (now closed)
- grounded for the afternoon

What’s your number?

Eight

Eight is the coat hanger number that corresponded neither to the size or the price of a dress we bought for Dragana today. I remember I was always keen on coat hanger numbers, even though I wasn’t dress size-literate; in fact, I still couldn’t tell you my shirt size in numbers, just in letters.
Anyway, as for personal bits, I/we never take our car to official service but to our local mechanic Gašper who takes car of everything at a very reasonable price. We did it today and Jean-Jacques is as good as new (knock knock) :))

Monday update

We spent the entire weekend in a little town in Dolenjska visiting Dragana’s family. I hadn’t realised I was so hooked on Internet – I had a hard time staying off-line for three days. I just longed for some aimless evening browsing, but we watched several episodes of Friends instead, which was equally OK in the end.

Was not particularly in photographic mood (not related to the abstinent crisis) so you only get a pic of my favorite model. Who by the way just crawled over and wants to play with computer, just like her dad, her little hand reaching up and scratching my jeans and ventilation ribs on laptop.
