thirty

As suggested by my office-mate, today’s number is thirty. It is the number of seminar papers students tried to stuff into my mailbox at the faculty. The pic is from last year, part of a garbage container number from Dresden. Hmm, what would Freud have to say about this “coincidence” :)
Anyway, since I was talking about bonuses a bit earlier, here is a bonus just for Slovene readers - the central part of the message from Miha:
30 seminarskih.
V postnem nabiralniku.
Oziroma v neposredni blizini.
Moram priznati, da je prav velicastno izgledalo.
10 seminarskih noter, 10 na pol v nabiralniku in
10 nekako napol lebdecih, za cm zataknjenih, ki so
se razpirali kot en cvet cez vse sosednje odprtine.
Tako simbolicno - kot bi jih nabiralnik izbljuval,
ker je bil prepoln.
Little bonuses

Don’t you just love the little bonuses you get unexpectedly? Like when you get an extra little orange in your orange? Or like this two-in-one biscuit (actually its more one and a third-in-one). But today’s post is not about biscuits, it about cherries. We have a really good cherry year, we probably ate some six kilos in two weeks, and we got all of them for free :)) Like on Tuesday I poped into my mentor’s office and I got a bag of fresh cherries from Brda, but the biggest surprise came today when Dragana and Tamara were strolling through our neighborhood (the part with all the houses and garden kitsch) and a man just gave them a big bag of cherries.
semiotics gone bad

No comment :)))
But you can make some.
garden kitsch

Kamnik is definitely a capital of garden kitsch. Locals have a peculiar garden ornamentation fetish that you notice at once. But after a while, you notice that there is much more to it than simply garden elfs that BTW probably equal the number of residents. No, seriously, there are literally hundreds of them.
But some people go way beyond Snow white&c.o. to create elaborate constructions, like this most incredible piece of s… Just imagine how much work was put into this.
I’ll post more of them shortly - such discoveries are a side effect of strolling with Tamara. I am considering doing a photo essay on the subject for some time and these recent discoveries are only adding to the temptation.
seventeen

First I thought that the next number will be fifteen, but I was a bit confusing because it was on a sticker that I found in front of a house with number sixteen. But than, this incredible seventeen came along and that was it. As for personal bits, I love fish but I had never eaten a carp.
marechal

On Friday, Josip Broz Tito would have celebrated his 115th birthday. The rose smells divinely and we will plant one as soon as we buy some land. If you want, you can come and smell the rose in Arboretum near Kamnik, its worth the trip :)
found still life

One of the useless free publications for Kamnik region arrived this week, one of those so called magazines with crappy content that serve simply as advertisement vehicles. But it does have one good side – it carries a page of hilarious small ads. Well, it’s not the ads themselves that are hilarious but their juxtaposition. They appear for example in the following order (selling): children’s bicycle, stable manure, 101 film songs, goat’s milk-healthy food!, six kitchen stools, electric radiator on wheels, goat for raising or slaughter, garden shed ‘+ garden for rent, children’s clothes for girls (toys given as a gift), 10 liter water boiler, wardrobe with mirror (good bargain), protective net for construction site (half price), high quality jacket for boys, Ford mondeo 1995 (as spare parts).
And my favorite: can someone donate me bread baking machine, juicer and microwave, goblin Last supper, still life, flowers, nature or Mary with Jesus. I would also like to have a Nokia mobile phone. It’s been running for four months now :))
The pic is a nice rural still life from Kamnik to go with the small ads.
944

The number is from one of the opening scenes of a partisan film I screened today for my VC class. It was a part of political propaganda section but t is actually a fascinating film, at least from the point of production. And casting. And it made me feel old since most of my students never watched a partisan movie before. Hmm.
Speaking about my students, the end of the semester is a time when I get a lot of odd emails; for example last week – among other stuff – I got a short psychoanalysis of my ego (instead of seminar paper on public opinion) and a phone number of a very busy (female) student asking me to call her. But instead of giving you her number, you get to see the most frequently re-appearing tank number from the above mentioned film.
weekend in pics

Happy Monday friends. Hope you had a nice weekend, ours was socially very intensive but we had a great time, specially visiting my PhD mentor and his wife in Goriska Brda, the Tuscany-style part of Slovenia. The cherry trees are in full fruit and local farmers have squatted every bus stop along the route. We got over three kilos from our hosts and ate them before I had a chance to take a photo of a full bowl. Tiles are from a shop in Italian part of Gorica.
- reflection on a lazy Friday afternoon in Ljubljana
- found still life (will go back and make one without reflection)
- Saturday morning espresso in Gorica/Gorizia
- mannequin in Gorica/Gorizia
- Tamara doing her Persil act.
