Season of visits

On the first visit to a newborn baby, it is a “traditional” Bosnian custom to bring the following presents for the household: coffee, sugar, juice, cakes and soap. And alcohol (usually plum brandy) for the father. And money for the baby. Dragana has no idea how traditional this “tradition” is, but it is definitely not of very recent invention. I also don’t know if it is characteristic of Bosnia in general or just the hills near Banja Luka. The interesting thing to me is that on such and similar occasions, the general visiting gift – coffee – is usually complemented with a pack of sugar, preferably in cubes.
