Officeless :)
I had had my name misspelled ever since I started more formal communication with the “outer” world and they were so hilarious that at a certain point I started collecting the misspelled address labels. Than the computer generated forms took away all the fun although I occasionally still appear as Miss. That was in fact my early childhood frustration, people thinking I was a girl. Well, if you would peek into my album, you really can’t blame the poor clerks. But you could say a thing or two about the way my mother cut my hair. Anyway, all of this reached a new level on Tuesday when I came to my beloved office that recently got a facial makeover. Just on the outside, of course. The doors were repainted and new mane plaques installed. But apparently, its not my office anymore, it belongs to a guy with a funny surname. OK, adding Dragana’s surname certainly did not make things easier for official use but hey, we re talking about my employers here. I had to play an old fashioned censure trick on them, just for the fun of it – four mistakes in three words, that’s a record even by my standards:) Perhaps I should continue building up my collection…
Ljubljana’s specials

Tell me, does this sound inviting or what?
Slices of cold meat, yummy yummy.
Have really no idea what they mean by this or what tourists make out of it, but it did not convince my hungry stomach. Or any of the cookbooks. But if you feel adventerous enough, hop down to Trubarjeva.
I hope…

you were not waiting for me to provide you with the missing lottery ticket number. This one is too high anyway, unless you split it into half.
As for personal bits, I don’t believe in questions and concepts like favorite colour, singer, film director, food etc. I can never narrow it down to one. I like green, blue and red a lot. And violet. And pink on Tamara. And white on walls. And black on sweaters… See what I mean. The same is with books and authors. My favorite ones are currently Milorad Pavić and Orhan Pamuk. Than it would probably be Borges. And after him…
Highlights

Hello friends,
after days of silence, here are basic highlights of the busy week related to the already familiar blog topics.
- I found a bunch of new shady graffiti characters for short stories on Ljubljana on Metelkova. Well, the location is so obvious that I should have thought of it before. Anyway, they will be on Flickr sometime next week.
- Snooped out a very good real estate investment opportunity but unfortunately do not have €140.000 to invest at the moment :)) If I had, I’d be a rich man by the end of the year. But no worries for now.
- Hurah!. Had a classic Saturday morning – strolling, vegetable market and coffee with friends in old Ljubljana.
- Finished the week with what is called a “mean chocolate cake”. Well, it is a play of words in Slovene, where “huda čokoladna torta” could also mean “very chocolate cake”, but it is so full of chocholate that it IS “mean”. Well, no photos of the cake I’m afraid, was too good to wait for the photo op.
And as you can see, more tiles in doorways :)
Scared away

Well, spring has finally arrived. At least that’s how it feels for the past two days. Apparently “kurenti”, the mythological creatures native to a part of Slovenia, did a good job of scaring it away. Although as the speakers on Student radio commented, they must have had a hard time this year as winter and snow switched to guerilla tactics to avoid their clubs. Anyway, the carnival ended today and here is a pic of my favorite carnival costume. It is said to weigh around 40kg (sheep skin, large cow bells etc.) and costs about 2000€ to make. I must admit that of all Slovenian ethnographic pearls, this is my favorite.
Coincidences

I had one of those coincidence experiences yesterday, those when things or events just click by themselves. I just spent a part of Friday evening making rubber stamps (cutting them out of old erasers) and went to bed quite pleased with the results. Then the next morning as we passed the flea market on our way to vegetable market, the first thing I saw were old printing clichés. And I just knew I had to buy some of them. Based on the name of the printer on one of the blocks, they are from 1920’s or 1930’s. Neither paper nor ink were appropriate for test prints but I gave it a try nevertheless.

Hip hip,

Season of visits

On the first visit to a newborn baby, it is a “traditional” Bosnian custom to bring the following presents for the household: coffee, sugar, juice, cakes and soap. And alcohol (usually plum brandy) for the father. And money for the baby. Dragana has no idea how traditional this “tradition” is, but it is definitely not of very recent invention. I also don’t know if it is characteristic of Bosnia in general or just the hills near Banja Luka. The interesting thing to me is that on such and similar occasions, the general visiting gift – coffee – is usually complemented with a pack of sugar, preferably in cubes.
Ta da

I got a great Valentine surprise yesterday when I opened my mailbox and found an envelope from Australia among bills and Edirisa bank statements. It was my Whiplash competition prize – a set of lovely handmade greeting cards. These above are my absolute favorites from pinkbathtub, particularly the warm wishes one. The other two cards were from boiledart and eggagogo.
Be…my…funny…

Here is a genuine Black Eye Cafe valentine pic for you, if you prefer a differently romantic one, click for Dragana’s heart in a glass (black eye is contagious). And instead of my thoughts on the subject of Valentine, close your eyes and click here for almost eight minutes of pure ease. Well, if you are not very good with your mouse, do all the clicking first and then close your eyes :)).
P.S. If the download doesn’t work, the song you are after is Big Muff: My Funny Valentine
